After a thrilling 3-0 start to the 2016-17 season, the Saint Mary’s Gaels have moved up two spots in the Associated Press polls to No. 15 after starting the season at No. 17. The Gaels are currently outscoring their opponents 193-133 and are perfect at home so far this season.

The Gaels come into the holiday week with the San Jose State game on Tuesday and then a trip to Las Vegas for a neutral site game against UAB on Sunday. The Gaels blew away Prairie View A&M last week 110-72, the first 100+ point game since 2012.

The Gaels shot 57.4 percent in the game with an impressive 62.5 percent in the first half alone. True freshman Jordan Ford also had a strong showing with 12 points to add to his young career.

The next game against Dayton saw the Gaels fighting to maintain their lead. In the second half Saint Mary’s led by 20 points only to see the Flyers battle back to get within reach of a win. A foul from the Flyers and two free throws from Emmett Naar sealed the win for the Gaels, which was a wakeup call to the team that won’t be forgotten in their game against the Spartans.

San Jose State is currently sitting on a 1-2 record. After starting the season with a big 109-70 win over West Coast Baptist, the Spartans fell 79-66 to Portland and they lost against Denver with a score of 74-69. The Spartans are currently averaging roughly 81 points per game while allowing 74.3 points per game.
