The Miami Dolphins needed a goal line stand to beat the San Francisco 49ers, punishing Colin Kaepernick in the process.

There was a lot on the line in Miami on Sunday. In a game that the Dolphins needed to stay in the AFC playoff hunt, Colin Kaepernick offered up extra incentive. It was brought up by Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero that Kaepernick was spotted wearing a Fidel Castro shirt back in August, something that was once again relevant with the death of the Cuban leader this past week.

Castro, the Cuban dictator who has long oppressed the people of Cuba, died on Friday at the age of 90. The Cuban population across the world celebrated his death, including those who migrated to South Florida. Needless to say, the reminder of Kaepernick showing what many believed to be support or an endorsement of Castro didn’t sit well with fans in Miami.

All of that came to a cathartic conclusion on Sunday when the Dolphins defense stopped Kaepernick on a goal line stand.

With the Dolphins leading by a touchdown, Kaepernick was stopped by Kiko Alonso just short of the end zone. The hit ended the game and ended a tumultuous few days for everyone in Miami.

It was a fitting end to a game that Dolphins fans were heavily invested in, more so than they usually are. Kaepernick out a target on his back when he waded into Fidel Castro waters this week, and fans in Miami are going home extra happy this Sunday.
