The New Orleans Saints blow out the Los Angeles Rams, 49-21 on Sunday in Week 12. New Orleans improves to 5-6 on the year, while the Rams fall to 4-7 on the season.

The New Orleans Saints put together one of their better performances of 2016, as they clobbered the Los Angeles Rams, 49-21 on Sunday. This was a huge offensive showing from the Saints at home, exposing vulnerabilities in the Rams defense.

New Orleans would get a good challenge from the Rams in the first half, as Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff would throw for three touchdowns. The Saints would take a 28-21 lead at halftime and never looked back. They crushed the Rams 21-0 in the second half to improve to 5-6. Los Angeles’ season might be over with, as the Rams sink to 4-7 on the year.

The Saints have five passing touchdowns to no interceptions on the day. Drew Brees had four of the five and wide receiver Willie Snead would have one of his own on a well-designed trick play. Add in the two rushing touchdowns and it was no surprise that the Saints blew out the Rams in the second half.

This is troubling news for the Rams. They might have to move on from head coach Jeff Fisher. He can finish no better than 9-7 this season. So much for what he said on HBO’s Hard Knocks at the beginning of the season. New Orleans is still alive in the NFC Playoffs race, but barely at 5-6. It’s still a great win at home for the Saints.

Three Stars

  1. Drew Brees: Brees dominated the Rams on Sunday afternoon. He completed 28 of 36 passes for 310 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. Brees would also have a one-yard rushing touchdown on the day.
  2. Mark Ingram: Ingram had an outstanding day on the ground and through the air against the Rams defense. He had 146 yards rushing on 14 carries for one touchdown. As a receiver, Ingram would have an additional 21-yard touchdown reception.
  3. Michael Thomas: Thomas was Brees’ favorite target on Sunday. He had nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdown receptions.
