The #15 Saint Mary’s Gaels take on UAB Blazers at the Orleans Arena on Sunday in a neutral court game.
Gaels’ center Jock Landale is having an amazing year; in Tuesday’s game against the San Jose State Spartans he finished shooting 9 for 10 and 87% from the charity line. Landale is leading the Gaels in scoring and is shooting 75% from the field on the season. The Gaels won the game 81-64 and they sealed the deal early in the second half of the game after an 18-2 run capped with Landale landing a slam dunk to close the lid. Fellow Aussie guard Emmett Naar had 16 points and 4 assists while Calvin Hermanson notched 16 points for the second game in a row.
Looking ahead at the neutral site game with UAB, Gaels Coach Randy Bennett acknowledged the Blazers’s strength on the court. “I know they’re good. They were good last year and they returned a lot of those guys.”
UAB is heading to Vegas to take on the second nationally ranked team since the start of the season. The last game was a loss against #5 Kansas in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Missouri. Over the Thanksgiving break they won a game against George Washington to make it 3-2 on the season.

This is the first meeting between Saint Mary’s and the UAB Blazers, but it marks the 10th game UAB has played against a West Coast Conference school. Their more recent match up came during the first round of last year’s NIT tourney when UAB faced off and lost to BYU 97-79.
