Kansas City Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos kicked the winning field goal in overtime right off the field goal post.

The NFL has been full of lengthy overtime games on Sunday Night Football this year. With one tie already in the books between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks, the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos appeared to be heading that way too on Sunday night.

With time close to running out in overtime, the Chiefs were able to march into position to kick a field goal to win the game after the Broncos missed one from 62 yards. The reliable Cairo Santos trotted onto the field to kick the field goal and what unfolded was madness to end the game.

As Santos lined up for the kick, he pushed it straight into the field goal post and it appeared that he had missed. He actually made it and the refs signaled that the field goal bounced in and was indeed good.

After these two teams played a critical AFC West game for playoff positioning, they were going to go until the bitter end on this one. Even if it meant playing 75 minutes in the altitude and cold weather to get the end of the journey.

In the end, it doesn’t matter how Santos makes it as long as it goes in and it was a huge win for the Chiefs. They now move to 8-3 on the season and have road wins over both the Broncos and the Oakland Raiders.
