The Big 12 champion will be decided between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for the second straight year, as the winner hopes to sneak into the playoff.

Prior to the start of the season, everyone viewed the Big 12 as Oklahoma and everyone else. But with two non-conference losses to Houston and Ohio State, it looked like there were some kinks in the armor. However, they have since roared back by going 8-0 in conference play.

Baker Mayfield has been great as usual, but the emergence of guys like Joe Mixon and Dede Westbrook have been key to the Sooners’ high-powered offense. They’re playing just as well as anyone in the conference, and even if they don’t make the playoff, nobody wants to face them come bowl season.

But that’s not to say the winner of this game can’t make the playoff. The Big 12 isn’t the only conference that’s guaranteed to have a two-loss champion. And when talking about Oklahoma State, the playoff committee said they are “aware” of the controversy surrounding their “loss” to Central Michigan. If that’s to be believed, then the Cowboys are really a one-loss team, and a road win over the Sooners might be enough to send them into the playoff.

Thanks to a genius bit of scheduling, Bedlam will be played on the same week of conference championships, since this is the unofficial Big 12 Championship Game. However, it’s still a regular season game at heart, which means it’ll get an early kickoff. It’ll be at 12:30 p.m. ET which is 11:30 a.m. in Norman. Sooners fans will surely be wondering what they ever did to deserve that.

On a day where conference champions will be decided, the Big 12 will try to set the tone with Bedlam. And depending on how impressive the winner looks, it may be tough to keep them out of the top four.
