Toronto FC defeated the Montreal Impact to earn a spot in MLS Cup 2016 thanks to back-to-back goals in extra time.

Toronto FC beat the Montreal impact 5-2 in the second leg of the MLS Eastern Conference Finals thanks to goals two minutes apart in the first half of extra time.

The two Canadian sides were battling for a trip to the finals of the MLS Cup Playoffs. It turned into an all-time MLS playoff series thanks to great offense and fairly poor defense from both sides.

The impact won the first leg 3-2 in Monteal; a 0-0 tie would see them through to the final. That was never going to be the result of this particular second leg.

By the end of regulation, the score was knotted at 5-5 on aggregate. The away goal rule was rendered useless as both clubs scored two. Extra time was needed to settle this shootout.

It took Toronto FC eight minutes to break the deadlock as Steven Beitashour served up a beauty of a cross for Benoit Cheyrou to head in while fighting off a defender.

TFC took the one goal lead, which absolutely none of the Toronto supporters took comfort from. Goals were being scored from from everywhere and at anytime in this series. Luckily for the Reds, they also scored the next one a scant two minutes later.

In the 100th minute, a long ball was lofted up toward forward Jozy Altidore. He held off the defender, letting the ball bounce in front of him a couple of times with this back to goal before taking a ridiculous first touch that shot him into space on the right wing.

Altidore used his strength to brush off the Montreal defender and sent an inch-perfect pass into the box for a sliding Tosaint Ricketts to finish.

The Impact would hardly threaten the TFC goal for the remainder of the extra time periods. The two quick Toronto goals understandably took the wind out of their sales.

Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore and Toronto FC move on to MLS Cup 2016 to face Jordan Morris — who scored a huge goal against the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Finals — and the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, December 10. Kickoff is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
