NFL roundup: Former Jets RB Joe McKnight killed in road rage incident

In somber NFL news, former Jets and Chiefs running back Joe McKnight was killed in a road rage incident on Thursday outside of New Orleans.

Joe McKnight, the electric running back who excelled at USC before playing for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, was killed on Thursday in an apparent road rage incident. The speedster was gunned down after getting in an altercation with another motorist.

It is an incredibly sad end to a very young life for absolutely no reason. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.

The San Diego Chargers have exercised their option to move to Los Angeles, and barring a miracle, it appears their days in San Diego are numbered. The organization has tried working with the city of San Diego to get a new stadium, but they could not get the votes to secure financing.

The Chargers have a tenant-lease agreement with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, and will be able to sell their own season tickets and split revenue sharing.

Staying in the AFC, it appears the season of Rob Gronkowski is over. The big tight end of the New England Patriots will have to get surgery on a herniated disc in his back, and the recovery will keep him out at least two months.

The team will make a determination after his surgery on Friday, but it is likely that he is headed for injured reserve. The news is a huge blow to a Patriots team that is currently owns the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

The Denver Broncos may be without their starting quarterback on Sunday, as Trevor Siemian is still not practicing this week. Siemian was hurt during the team’s overtime loss against the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday night, and has been seen in a walking boot. If Siemian cannot go, expect the team to go to rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Lastly, the bad experiment that was Jay Cutler being the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears is probably over. The veteran will undergo surgery on his shoulder to repair a torn labrum and will be put on injured reserve. The team gave the injury two weeks to heal, but in the end, only surgery is going to fix it. The Bears are expected to part ways with Cutler after the season and will likely draft a quarterback in next April’s draft.
