Who are the select few to have won the College Football Playoff already?

The College Football Playoff is still relatively new to the college football landscape. It replaced the BCS in 2014, a system that people criticized because a computer would determine and select the top two qualified teams to compete for the National Championship. While the CFP has still been critiqued, especially for the way the Big Ten conference has been handled in 2016, this system still seems to be supported more often than not.

We’re now entering the third year of the College Football Playoff. The four teams for the upcoming series of games will be determined by the end of December’s opening weekend, with some of them even being the same schools from the first two years of the CFP.

Who are the previous two College Football Playoff winners, though?

In the first-ever CFP, Ohio State would enter as the No. 4 seed. They had to get by No. 1 Alabama with their third-string quarterback, Cardale Jones. The task was difficult, but they beat the Crimson Tide, 42-35. This led to the Buckeyes crushing the Oregon Ducks, 42-20 to win the National Championship.

The following year, Alabama started the CFP as the No. 2 team. They ended up obliterating Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl, 38-0, to make it to the National Championship game. Clemson would be the opponent, and these two turned in terrific performances. However, it would be the Crimson Tide winning the title game, 45-40.

In the 2016 College Football Playoff, it seems likely that Alabama will get the top spot and go for their second consecutive title win. Ohio State is also No. 2 heading into the conference championship weekend. However, their spot may be threatened by the likes of Wisconsin and Penn State, who are playing in the Big Ten Conference Championship game.
