The Virginia Tech punter brought out his inner basketball player with this shooting-esque throw on a fake punt.

Virginia Tech has been getting mauled by Clemson in the ACC Championship game. This saw Deshaun Watson march the Tigers down the field twice; first, it saw him run in for a three-yard score. Then, he hit Jordan Leggett on a 21-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.

So, the Hokies needed to do something quickly to come back. Otherwise, Watson and Co. were likely to start blowing the doors off this scoreboard.

Well, on fourth down and in their own territory, VA Tech seemed like they were going to punt. However, a bit of trickery came into play. Punter Mitchell Ludwig hit Terrell Edmunds on a pass that looked like he was shooting a free throw in basketball. Edmunds then took off for 20 yards to give them a surprising first down. This became the early play of the game for both sides.

The referees initially threw a foul against it, but eventually called it back when they realized Edmunds was in a proper spot to catch the ball on replay. So, the flag got picked up due to the ball placement.

This worked very well as the Hokies quickly drove down the field and scored on a Travon McMillan rushing touchdown. This trimmed the lead to 14-7, Clemson.

While trickery can’t always be used, it helped Virginia Tech to get back into the game. They will won’t be able to stop Watson and the Clemson offense, but this was a way of staying in the game.
