When will ESPN announce the 2016 Heisman Trophy Finalists?

Yet another season of college football is coming to an end in 2016. As always, fans have been treated to some extraordinary performances from individuals. Some of these individuals will be up for the 2016 Heisman Trophy.

The trophy annually goes to the most outstanding player in NCAA Football. However, winning it doesn’t necessarily guarantee success in the NFL. While players like Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and Cam Newton have won it, for every Charles Woodson, there’s an Eric Crouch and a Johnny Manziel.

This year, fans will found out who the finalists are for the Heisman Trophy on Monday, Dec. 5. Specifically, the announcement will come at 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPN during SportsCenter. There are a ton of deserving players this year, so no matter who the finalists are, someone quite deserving will be left off. That’s a testament to how many great individual performances there has been this season.

ESPN sent out a release on Monday noting that the announcement will come around 7 p.m. ET.

Even being a finalist is an incredible honor. Finalists get a trip up to the Big Apple for the presentation. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and one every finalist is deserving of. Also, it’s one last chance to relax before the NFL Draft. At the end of the day, these athletes are students. It’s hard to remember that. For one final night, these students can be friends.

The presentation will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at 8 p.m. ET. Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson has been an overwhelming favorite to win all year but ending the season with two straight losses could have narrowed the gap for challengers like Baker Mayfield, Dede Westbrook, Deshaun Watson and J.T. Barrett to steal some votes. Look for three-four finalists to be named when the announcement is made.

Whoever it is will join the likes of Roger Staubach, O.J. Simpson, Earl Jackson, and Bo Jackson as the list of Heisman winners will grow by one. Who do you think should win? Let us know in the comments!
