Quarterback Blake Barnett, who was the opening day starter for Alabama, is transferring to Arizona State.

Blake Barnett is going from “Roll Tide” to “Forks Up.”

Barnett, who was the opening day starter at Alabama, announced on his Twitter feed that he is leaving the Crimson Tide and is taking his talents to the Valley of the Sun to play for Arizona State University.

It’s a pretty smart move for Barnett, who had big dreams winning championships with Nick Saban before those dreams were crushed when he lost his starting job to true freshman Jalen Hurts.

Barnett is a QB that isn’t built for carrying a clipboard. He was a five-star recruit coming out of Santiago High School in Corona, California, and Alabama quickly swooped in and saw him as the guy that would keep them on top.

After being redshirted in his freshman year, Barnett was ready to be “the man” at Alabama, getting the starting nod against USC. But when Barnett struggled, and Hurts came in a did a fantastic job, it was clear that Barnett was not going to get his starting job back and that he wouldn’t be back at Alabama.

So, he decided to transfer to Arizona State, which is closer to home and he won’t have as much pressure on him like he had with the Crimson Tide. Thanks to NCAA rules, however, the Sun Devil faithful will have to wait to see Barnett in action as he will have to sit out the first four games of the 2017 season.

But that’s fine with Blake Barnett. All he wants to do is be “the man” again.
