Klay Thompson went supernova with 40 first half points for the Golden State Warriors Monday night, and Stephen Curry loved every minute of it.

The Golden State Warriors are on pace to become one of the NBA’s most high-powered offenses of all time, so nothing is really out of the question whenever they take the floor.

With Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson all sharing the court, plus plenty of capable shooters, passers and role players surrounding them, the Dubs are the league’s top-ranked offense, posting an insane offensive rating of 114.8 points per 100 possessions.

Yet somehow, that number might increase after Monday’s early blowout of the Indiana Pacers, and it’s all thanks to the guy whose shooting slump to start the season was a main area of concern.

Boasting an NBA-best 17-3 record, the Warriors were hosting the Indiana Pacers Monday night, with Paul George’s squad being on the second night of a back-to-back. With Curry and KD to worry about, Klay Thompson got going in the first quarter with 17 points…and then really started heating up in the second quarter…and then went full SUPERNOVA to finish the half with 40 points.

To be fair, this isn’t the most extravagant scoring night we’ve ever seen from Klay (or, not yet, at least). Keep in mind, this is the same guy that dropped an NBA-record 37 points in a single quarter before.

But 40 first half points is still damned impressive, especially in a game where the Warriors led 80-50 at half. Not only did the other Splash Brother score half of his team’s points, but he also fell just 10 points shy of the entire Indiana Pacers team by himself.

Klay finished the first half with 17 first quarter points (in period where the Warriors tied a franchise record for assists in a single quarter with 15), 23 second quarter points, and shot 15-of-22 from the field (5-of-9 from three-point range). All of this came in just 18 minutes of action.

Steph Curry was loving it so much from the bench he tried running to midcourt before realizing only the tunnel could contain his excitement:

On any given night, the Warriors have three players who can ignite and carry this team to victory. Klay Thompson doesn’t get as much love as he should, and was even recently mentioned in reference to the trade block.

But the Splash Brother who famously said he wasn’t “sacrificing s**t” has quickly busted out of his early season shooting slump, and games like this massacre against Indiana are a pretty fair indicator why the rest of the league should be very worried about this super-team.
