On Wednesday night, Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper reacted on Twitter to the news of teammate Adam Eaton being traded to the Chicago White Sox.

The Winter Meetings are in full effect. One of the best things about this week are the occasional player reactions when a big trade or signing happens. Enter Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, and his thoughts on Adam Eaton coming to D.C. after a trade with the Chicago White Sox.

On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox pulled a huge move when they traded Eaton to the Nationals for Lucas Giolito and a pair of pitching prospects. The cost of the trade was high for Washington, which apparently caught the eyes of Harper. He went to Twitter to share his reaction to the deal.

His sudden reaction immediately caught the eyes of the baseball world, as many media outlets including FOX Sports retweeted his thoughts. It seemed like more of a trigger response from Harper, who was obviously shocked by the news of the deal. But later on, he posted a welcome message to Eaton.

Now one has to wonder, was it a genuine welcome message from Harper? Or was it a PR move after he sent what initially appeared to be a fired up response? According to Ken Rosenthal, another unnamed player sent him a text that questioned the move, which makes me wonder just what the team as a whole thinks about the trade.

I’m sure once things settle down from this, the players will group together and do what they need to do to make 2017 their year. But it’s also going to be interesting to see if any other players decide to make their opinions known about this as well.

Eaton, who turned 28 on Tuesday, will be under team control until 2021. This also includes a pair of team options along the way. He will likely take over in center field, allowing Trea Turner to go to his known position at shortstop.
