A big Pokemon GO announcement is coming December 12
By Nick Tylwalk
It’s been fairly quiet on the Pokemon GO front lately, but that could change in a big way come Monday.
Enjoy Pokemon GO? Like guessing games? Then you’re probably going to love this, because both of those things are involved.
The Pokemon Company released a teaser for a big announcement concerning Pokemon GO on December 12, but that’s really all it was: a tease.
Okay, we know it involves more Pokemon coming to this summer’s smash mobile hit, but that’s about it. Here it is in its entirety:
"The Pokémon Company International and Niantic, Inc. will reveal details on December 12 about the addition of more Pokémon to Pokémon GO, one of the most popular mobile games of the year. Stay tuned, Trainers!"
All we have in times like this is our old pal speculation. And fortunately, there’s been plenty of that. Some people feel lit’s going to be the introduction of Generation 2 Pokemon to the mix. Others think it could the reveal of the first corporate-sponsored partnership.
It’s likely to be both. Already, reports are that Sprint will be involved, with its stores becoming gyms and PokeStops. So, too, might Starbucks locations.
The timing would make all kinds of sense. Not only does Pokemon GO need something new to draw lapsed players back in (assuming we’re never going to be able to duel with friends, that is), but winter is almost upon us. Any game that relied on people walking around outside to catch Pokemon needs to retool for colder weather.

Partnering up with retailers is the perfect answer. Or at least it could be when paired with a wave of new Pokemon. We’ll see exactly what’s in store on Monday.
