Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson was awarded the 2016 Heisman Trophy for his exceptional performances on the field this season.

A new face can stand among the greats in college football history. On Saturday night, the 2016 Heisman Trophy Presentation ended with Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson being awarded with the coveted title of the best in college football.

The dynamic quarterback was the first Heisman finalist for the Cardinals in their history and he overcame all the hype and pressure placed on him from the beginning. Whether you believe in the “September curse” or not, Jackson made sure to carry his tremendous play throughout the season.

Jackson’s huge win over Florida State early on in the season helped elevate the early Heisman buzz to another level. The way he controlled the field and was able to take matters upon himself to lead his teams to victory represented what a Heisman is all about.

On the season, Jackson passed for 3390 yards with 30 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. He also rushed for 1,538 yards and scored a ridiculous 21 touchdowns. Combining for 51 touchdowns and 4,928 yards was more than enough to earn one of the most esteemed honors in all of sports.

Although his team faded a bit down the stretch of the season, Jackson remained relentless in his approach to prove he was the best in college football. The Cardinals were in the discussion until the very end and they were in that position because of their quarterback.

Now, Jackson will forever join a class that is comprised of the greatest legends to ever play the game. Guys that have won National Championships, Super Bowls and are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. No one knows where his career will go from here moving forward, but he can now forever call himself a Heisman Trophy winner.
