Legendary announcer Verne Lundquist teared up during his final college football broadcast on CBS on Saturday.

A legend said goodbye to his craft on Saturday, as Verne Lundquist called the final college football broadcast of his 50-year career. Lundquist and Gary Danielson, the dynamic duo for CBS, were on the call for the game between Army and Navy.

Late in the game, Danielson took the time to thank Lundquist for everything he has done over his career and being able to share a booth with him. As Danielson thanked him for being the voice of CBS for the last 17 years and being one of the best ever over his career, Lundquist began to tear up over his friend’s heartfelt regards.

It was an emotional moment for Lundquist and many that grew up watching him call the game and several other sports over his broadcasting career. Lundquist will still do the NCAA Tournament and major golf tournaments such as The Masters and the PGA Championship for CBS. Still, college football just won’t be the same without him narrating the game every single week.

Danielson is a class act and it was tough seeing him say goodbye to a longtime friend. Every great thing must come to an end and today, Lundquist said goodbye to the faithful audience that watched him for years.
