The San Diego Chargers may have lost Melvin Gordon to the foreseeable future after the second-year running back was carted off the field.

This season has already seen plenty of injuries, and the Chargers have certainly had their share. San Diego lost Branden Oliver in the preseason and then Danny Woodhead in Week 2. In the first regular-season game of the year, the Chargers watched wide receiver Keenan Allen tear his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs without being hit.

This Sunday, it appears another star might be down for some time. In the first quarter against the Carolina Panthers, Chargers running back Melvin Gordon had to be carted off the field and into the locker room. Without Gordon, San Diego is down to its third-string running back as the feature back.

This has been another disappointing season for Philip Rivers and the Chargers, who are all but out of the playoff chase with a 5-7 record. The Chargers have blown multiple large leads this year, putting them out of contention.

If nothing else, let’s hope that Gordon didn’t sustain an injury that will keep him out of the start of next season. At this point in the campaign, any kind of major ailment has that threat attached to it.
