1. San Francisco 49ers

Chip Kelly seems unlikely to be fired after just one season as head coach in San Francisco, even if they finish 1-15 with a 15-game losing streak. But nothing can be totally ruled out with that dysfunctional organization, so the 49ers could be in the market for a new head coach yet again come January.

But beyond a lack of talent throughout the entire roster, a big part of the 49ers’ problems this season have been on defense. Kelly’s up-tempo offense that doesn’t sustain drives well and stay on the field is a factor, but something has to change quickly on the defensive side of the ball for San Francisco.

That’s where Fisher could come in, if not as the new 49ers’ head coach then perhaps as Kelly’s new defensive coordinator. Kelly may not be willing to have a noted former head coach on his staff, but being in charge of opposite sides of the ball could minimize a possible power struggle and allow the situation to work.
