College Football Bowls 2016: 10 best big game head coaches
By John Buhler
While he’s not coaching for a national title this year, the Florida State Seminoles have themselves one of the best big game coaches in college football in Jimbo Fisher. Fisher has gone from Bobby Bowden’s coach-in-waiting into being one of the very best college football has to offer in less than a decade.
Since taking over for the Seminoles in 2010, Fisher has gone 77-17 overall, 45-11 in the ACC, won four ACC Atlantic titles, three ACC Championships, made the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014, and won the final BCS National Championship in 2013 over Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers.
Fisher has done well in all of his bowl games, going 4-2 in his six opportunities. Keep in mind that he started out 4-0 in that department. The 2014 Oregon Ducks were just better than Florida State in the Rose Bowl. The Houston Cougars wanted the Peach Bowl more than Florida State in 2015.
The ACC has so many great head coaches, but Fisher and Clemson’s Swinney are the best. Fisher edges out Swinney because he has done more in less time. Florida State will play Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines in the Orange Bowl.
