The New York Jets got going quickly with Bryce Petty hitting Robby Anderson for a 40-yard touchdown.

Saturday Night Football has begun as the college football regular season has ended. The first edition is currently seeing the New York Jets host the Miami Dolphins. Both teams are in a bit of dysfunction as the Jets officially cannot make the playoffs, and the Dolphins lost quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a knee injury last week.

Gang Green has been down for weeks due to injuries, poor play and the quarterback carousel. They brought back Ryan Fitzpatrick, who struggled mightily. Then Geno Smith got an opportunity but tore his ACL. Fitzpatrick returned, but would get benched for Bryce Petty, who has started the past three games with some growing pains.

Well, everything went right for Petty on his opening drive against the Dolphins. This culminated with a 40-yard strike to wide receiver Robby Anderson for a touchdown, giving the Jets an early 7-0 lead.

Petty made a quality throw here to find Anderson over the middle. The undrafted free agent then used his speed to create even more distance and find the end zone for the score.

There’s still a long way to go for the Jets to beat the Dolphins, but so far, so good. They should have an opportunity to take advantage of the Tannehill-less offense and stop running back Jay Ajayi with one of the league’s best rush defenses. If this can happen, then the Jets may put themselves in position to win.

We’ll see if the Jets can continue this momentum and potentially go to the running game for help. Bilal Powell filled in admirably for the injured Matt Forte last Sunday, and while the latter is back, there should be some confidence that these two can be a formidable duo to face the Dolphins defensive line. Will they do enough to win?
