The 2014 video of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon striking a female student inside a Norman restaurant was finally released Friday.

It has been one of the more disturbing stories in college football over the past few years – the assault by Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon in July 2014 of a female student. The assault took place shortly after he arrived on the campus in Norman as one of the top recruits in the country.

Now, the public is getting to see the images from that incident after surveillance video was released showing the altercation in a restaurant near campus. The video was released by Mixon’s attorneys.

The state’s Supreme Court–in a nearly unanimous ruling–determined the video should be released after various media outlets in Oklahoma filed a lawsuit asking for it to be. Both sides had copies of the video but didn’t release them while a civil suit is pending.

Mixon issued a statement through his attorney once again apologizing for the incident – saying he hopes releasing the clip will “put the matter to rest”, something that is easier said than done considering the severity of what’s on the video.

The running back claims the woman, 22-year-old Amelia Molitor, started the situation by confronting him and his friends outside – later continuing it inside the restaurant while either Molitor or a member her party used a racial slur against Mixon and his friends.

Mixon was suspended for the entire 2014 season – effectively using his redshirt year during the “punishment” – and was placed on probation following a plea deal in the case.

He is likely to declare for the NFL Draft after Oklahoma’s Sugar Bowl against the Auburn Tigers.
