Who would have thought South Carolina would race out to this hot of a start to begin the 2016-17 season? Frank Martin is putting together another solid basketball program after leaving Kansas State and making them perennial contenders.

However, the Gamecocks are coming off their first loss of the season after rising to No. 16 in the AP rankings. Falling against Seton Hall was a tough pill to swallow since it was a home game and only came by three points, but we will see how they bounce back.

It’s clear that the absence of leading scorer Sindarius Thornwell is hurting the team. He was suspended by Martin, but was averaging 18.7 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 48 percent from three-point range in seven games this season.

South Florida may have a chance at an upset without Thornwell in the lineup. The Gamecocks’ past two games without their leading scorer have been shaky, and South Florida is getting its top scorer back after missing the team’s first six games.

Sophomore guard Jahmal McMurray is leading the team with an average of 18 points per game and he’s had six total assists in two games. He’s also shooting 39 percent from three-point range, so that could be a threat for the Gamecocks to keep an eye on.

The Bulls shoot 48 percent from the floor but are averaging just 72 points per game. Getting McMurray back might help in the scoring department, though.
