Two of the newest inner state rivals go at it on Saturday when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Los Angeles Rams.

The cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles don’t care for each other at all. While the Dodgers and the Giants have one of the top rivalries in baseball, a new rivalry is brewing in the NFL. On Saturday, Dec. 24 starting at 4:25 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Rams (4-10) will host the San Francisco 49ers (1-13). In Week 1, San Francisco beat Los Angeles for their only win of the season so far.

The Rams have recently fired head coach Jeff Fisher. While there might be pain initially, they should be better off for the coaching change. Since taking over, starting quarterback Jared Goff has four touchdowns and five interceptions in five games. He has thrown for merely 879 passing yards. Running back Todd Gurley has 778 rushing yards with two more chances to have his second straight 1,000 yard season.

On the other side of the field, San Francisco has lost 13 straight games. Despite Colin Kaepernick at times looking very good, their defense has been horrific. It ranks last in points allowed per game, total yards allowed per game, and rushing yards allowed per game. While the 49ers passing attack has been abysmal (last in the NFL with 176.2 yards per game), they own the NFL’s fourth best rushing attack (134.8 yards per game, fourth in the league).

Odds

Spread: Los Angeles (-3.5)

Line: 49ers (+139) Rams (-164)

Over under: 41

According to Odds Shark, the Rams are the favorites to get their fifth win of the season. Worth noting is Los Angeles has gone 0-5 against the spread in their last five games. Also, the over under total has gone under in six of their last eight games.

Meanwhile, San Francisco has gone 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five games. They are 1-7-1 against the spread on the road this season.

Prediction

Look for Los Angeles to get their fifth win of the season. San Francisco is a very bad football team. Gurley should have a huge day and get much closer to his second straight 1,000 yard season.
