Idaho vs. Colorado State(-14.5)(4):
Idaho(8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt):
Wins: vs. Montana State(20-17), at UNLV(33-30), at Louisiana-Monroe(34-31), vs. New Mexico State(55-23), at Louisiana-Lafayette(23-13), at Texas State(47-14), vs. South Alabama(38-31), vs. Georgia State(37-12)
Losses: at Washington(14-59), at Washington State(6-56), vs. Troy(13-34), at Appalachian State(19-37)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4
Idaho is making the unprecedented move down to FCS in 2018. Will this bowl berth change that plan? A win might! Matt Linehan is one of the better quarterback you have never heard of. The Vandals don’t have a whole lot of talent at the skill positions, but this defense was much better than advertised. The Vandals won their last four games, and are rolling into bowl season.
Colorado State(7-5, 5-3 Mountain West):
Wins: vs. UTSA(23-14), vs. Northern Colorado(47-21), vs. Utah State(31-24), at UNLV(42-23), vs. Fresno State(37-0), vs. New Mexico(49-31), at San Diego State(63-31)
Losses: vs. Colorado(7-44), at Minnesota(24-31), vs. Wyoming(17-38), at Boise State(23-28), at Air Force(46-49)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-5
The Rams started the season sluggish. They got throttled by rival Colorado, who turned out to be better than almost anyone thought. The fact is that all of their losses were to teams that made a bowl games, and only Wyoming was a home game. They have a whole stable of running backs that they will keep throwing at you, and a sneaky good quarterback in Nick Stevens.
Prediction:
This is essentially a home game for the Vandals, but they did not get a good draw here. This game will be more of a defensive struggle than the experts are predicting. It is late December in Boise. It’s going to be cold! This favors Idaho. As much as I want to pick them to win, I flipped. The Rams have a much better track record. That said, Idaho is going to give the Rams all they want. This is going to be a close one!
