What would go down during the Dollar General Bowl between Troy and Ohio?

The Dollar General Bowl would take place on Friday night with Troy and Ohio battling before Christmas Eve. They would go for one last win to close their respective seasons and celebrating the holidays over the next week. Which team would stand out the most?

The first quarter had everything included. There were touchdowns, failed defensive coverage, and a plethora of turnovers that seemed to happen every other minute of the opening 12. Troy opened up the game with a quick touchdown from running back Jordan Chunn to give them an early 7-0 lead. Following this would be two interceptions, one for both Troy and Ohio to begin the turnover war.

Next, Ohio would score a touchdown with Greg Windham hitting a wide open Papi White, who had no one remotely close to him, for the 44-yard touchdown. This tied the game up at 7-7 before each team threw another set of interceptions. That would bring us to the end of the first quarter before Troy got back on the board with a second rushing touchdown from Chunn.

The second quarter saw two more turnovers, both of which came from Ohio (fumble and interception). Each team scored a touchdown, though, and Ohio chipped in a field goal to make it 21-17, Troy at halftime.

Midway through the third quarter, Ohio had a drive way back in their own territory. However, Windham would throw his fourth interception of the night after the ball bounced off a receiver and into a Troy defensive lineman’s hands. This led to a Trojan touchdown just one play later to make it 28-17.

In the fourth quarter, Ohio kicked a field goal to get the game to 28-23, Troy. The Trojans would then have to punt with 2:20 remaining in the game. They got the stop on the Bobcats on fourth down, and would kneel the ball to close out the game.

Three Stars

Jordan Chunn, Troy – Chunn may have had just 20 rushes for 56 yards, but he also had three touchdowns in the win.

Emmanuel Thompson, Troy – Thompson had eight catches for 83 yards and a touchdown to lead the way.

Jordan Reed, Ohio – Reed had 13 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown to be Ohio’s top performer of the night.

Highlights

Next Season

Next season, Troy will open up with a game in Boise, ID against the Boise State Broncos on September 2. Ohio will begin their season on the same day against Hampton at Peden Stadium.

Three Stars

Troy running back Jordan Chunn has a chance of being one of the top players from this game. He put up 13 rushing touchdowns in the 2016 season and should be on his way to another big game against Ohio.

Quarterback Brandon Silvers should have himself a productive evening as well. He had a completion percentage of 64.2 to go with 22 touchdowns. Can Silvers produce one of his best games of the season?

Ohio running back Dorian Brown has struggled lately with no 100-plus yard game since the end of October. After having just eight yards against Western Michigan, he could be due for a big evening to break his recent cold streak.
