Oakland won the game against the Colts on Saturday, but they may have lost their star quarterback, Derek Carr, for the season.

The Oakland Raiders defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 33-25 on Saturday, but the truth is, the game should be considered a loss.

With the team dominating in the fourth quarter, star quarterback Derek Carr was hit by Colts linebacker Trent Cole, and his right foot got stuck underneath him. As he writhed on the ground in pain, he could be seen mouthing “it’s broke,” and if that is true, the Raiders’ run to the Super Bowl may have come to an end.

Oakland dominated throughout the game, as Carr threw three first half touchdown passes. The Raiders went into half time up 19-7, and really looked like they were going to cruise to their 12th victory of the season.

The Colts made a game of it after Carr suffered his injury, pulling to within eight points late in the fourth quarter. However, backup Matt McGloin made a big throw on a third-and-8 to keep a late drive going for Oakland, and they were able to hang on for the win.

According to Vic Tafur, head coach Jack Del Rio says Carr has a broken fibula.

This is a huge blow to the Raiders’ hopes of making a Super Bowl appearance. Carr is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and is a far superior player than McGloin is. Oakland does have a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball, including rookie running back DeAndre Washington, who went off against the Colts on Saturday. Washington scored the first two touchdowns of his NFL career, rushing for 99 yards on only 12 carries.

For Indianapolis, the loss means their hopes for the playoffs are officially done, as they fell to 7-8 on the season. Andrew Luck threw for nearly 300 yards in the game, connecting on two  touchdown passes of his own. Luck also ran for a score for the Colts, who got absolutely nothing from their defense in this one. Oakland may lock up a bye and division title this week, but the potential loss of Carr is a death nail in their season.

Highlights

1. DeAndre Washington

The rookie running back out of Texas Tech was a monster for the Raiders on Saturday, as he made explosive runs every time he got the ball. He scored twice on elusive runs, and seemed to pick up at least five yards every time he touched the ball. The trio of him, Latavius Murray, and Jalen Richard will have to be relied upon even more if Carr is done for the season, and they have proven they can carry the load if necessary the past few weeks.

2. Derek Carr

Prior to his injury, Carr was lighting up the Colts’ secondary. The third-year quarterback spread the ball all over the field in this one, connecting with seven of his teammates. His three touchdown passes were to Jalen Richard, Andre Holmes and Clive Walford, which is impressive considering none went to the likes of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Carr is having an MVP-type season, but it is likely over due to the injury sustained on Saturday.

3. Andrew Luck

For Andrew Luck to continue to put up impressive numbers is almost head scratching, as he may have the worst offensive line in football. Despite the fact he threw two interceptions, Luck played inspired football on Saturday, standing in the pocket and delivering the ball downfield. He accounted for all three of the Colts touchdowns in their loss against the Raiders, and hopefully the organization can get him some protection heading into next season.
