It was another long afternoon for the New York Jets. But it was another lesson in winning football by the New England Patriots.

The New York Jets have been one of the league’s most disappointing teams this season. And just when you think things can’t get much worse, Todd Bowles’ club fell to the New England Patriots, 41-3, on Saturday afternoon at Foxborough.

Make it eight consecutive losses for the Green and White on the Pats’ home field. Bryce Petty started at quarterback for the Jets but was injured and gave way once again to Ryan Fitzpatrick. The duo combined to complete 8-of-21 passes for 136 yards and three interceptions. All told, New York turned over the football four times in the 38-point loss.

U-G-L-Y. Ugly…you know the rest.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Tom Brady

The 17-year pro is now 24-7 as a starter vs. the Green and White (including playoffs). In 32 lifetime meetings with this AFC East foe, Brady has thrown for an impressive 7,625 yards, 48 touchdowns, and only 14 interceptions. And the Pro Bowl bound signal-caller has now totaled 3,278 passing yards, 25 scores and a pair of picks in 11 contests this year. On Saturday, he threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns against Bowles’ squad.

2. LeGarrette Blount

The Patriots only ran for 114 yards but did it on 40 carries. Blount totaled 20 attempts for just 50 yards but reached the end zone twice. For the season, he’s amassed 285 carries for 1,110 yards and a franchise-record 17 rushing touchdowns. New England’s balanced attack is one reason this is a better New England squad than a year ago in terms of offense.

3. Malcolm Butler

He did it…and he didn’t.

Butler did not record a tackle in New England’s 41-3 win. But he picked off two passes, knocked down two more and came up with a fumble recovery in his club’s convincing victory. The Patriots’ defense has been a little up and down this year. But Butler has arguably been this unit’s most consistent performer in 2016.

Odds

Some spread, eh? The New York Jets were 16.5-point underdogs on Saturday afternoon at Foxborough. The OVER/UNDER was 43.5 and that wound up being nearly the Patriots’ total alone in this contest.

Next Week

The 4-11 New York Jets look to complete a sweep of the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. Todd Bowles’ team won a shootout in Orchard Park, 37-31, on a Thursday night in Week 2. The AFC East champion Patriots travel to South Florida to take on the 10-5 Dolphins. Bill Belichick’s club has lost three straight at Miami.
