Washington State QB Luke Falk returning for senior season
Quarterback Luke Falk is on his way back to Washington State for his senior season.
Luke Falk led the Washington State Cougars to a top-25 ranking for a share of the season, including when they won eight consecutive games. The Cougars then fell off a bit by losing their last two games to top-10 teams in Colorado and Washington. However, Falk still remained productive by throwing plenty of passes and racking up thousands of yards in head coach Mike Leach’s air raid offense.
Well, 2016 was not the end of Falk, who could have entered the 2017 NFL Draft after his junior season. According to Stefanie Loh of the Seattle Times, Leach recently said, “It won’t be [Falk’s] last game,” when asked about if the 21-year-old would be entering his final evening as a Cougar. He then noted, “any conversations we’ve had are between us, but I don’t believe he’s leaving.”
Falk didn’t match the numbers he put up in 2015 (4,651 passing yards, 38 touchdowns, eight interceptions), but still put up monster stats in this pass heavy offense. This includes a 71-percent completion rate (69.4 in 2015), 4,204 passing yards, and 37 touchdowns, 18 of which came in the final five games of the season.
Another year of Falk means the Washington State offense should be one of the most explosive offenses in not only the Pac-12, but the nation. He put up 40 or 50 passing attempts in most games, so we should see plenty more of this in 2017. How that impacts his 2018 draft stock remains to be seen, but the Logan, UT product should be up there with other quarterback prospects in about 16 months.

2017 should be another entertaining year in Pacific Northwest football, but that’s after Washington plays in the College Football Playoff on New Year’s Eve. Can Luke Falk and the Cougars give the Huskies a run for their money next year?
