The LSU Tigers took care of business in the Citrus Bowl, coming away with a comfortable 29-9 victory over Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals.

Louisville began the season as one of those AP Top 25 teams that no one really knew much about. The Cardinals were sitting firmly at No. 18 to begin the year before stringing together some nice victories, including a 43-point win over then-No. 2 Florida State that shot them up the rankings.

On the other hand, LSU was in the top five to start the season, but a loss to Wisconsin at Lambeau Field seemed to be the final nail in the coffin that was Les Miles’ tenure. However, he was given another shot and then lost two weeks later at Auburn. This team has rebounded nicely and is playing good ball again.

Who would have thought that LSU’s Danny Etling would be the top quarterback through one half of play on Saturday afternoon? Louisville’s Heisman-winning quarterback, Lamar Jackson, was struggling through the air and that was the reason for the lack of scoring in the first 30 minutes.

The second half didn’t start out much better for Jackson and the Cardinals as he couldn’t find his groove and it seemed like the Heisman winner mailed it in one game early. Louisville couldn’t anything going offensively and the Tigers ended up winning this one easily.

Three Stars

Derrius Guice not only destroyed Louisville’s kicker on a 50-yard return, but he looked like Leonard Fournette 2.0. He finished with 138 rushing yards and 11 receiving with two total scores.

Malachi Dupre looked like the elite receiver everyone was expecting to start the season for the Tigers. He caught seven passes for 139 yards.

Since there weren’t many impressive Cardinals outside of kicker Blanton Creque, LSU quarterback Danny Etling becomes the third star. He completed 16-of-29 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
