Louisville kicker Blanton Creque is no longer alive after LSU running back Derrius Guice trucked him on a 50-yard kickoff return.

Derrius Guice is having a Citrus Bowl for the ages. Heading into the game, all of the talk was on Leonard Fournette (wisely) sitting out to protect his NFL Draft stock. But anyone who’s watched LSU football all year knows that they have a beast of a running back behind him in Guice, who will basically make Tigers fans forget all about Fournette next year.

At the time of writing, Guice is up to 148 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. He’s also shown some flash in the return game, having racked up 81 yards off of kickoff returns. None of them were more memorable than this one, in which he picked up 50 yards and destroyed Louisville kicker Blanton Creque:

That hit sent shockwaves all across the Internet. Not only did Derrius Guice do Fournette proud, but he caught the attention of every LSU running back. Here’s what Jeremy Hill had to say about that hit:

Kickers are people too, and it shouldn’t take a 212 pound running back for people to realize that fact. Blanton Creque has also been responsible for all of Louisville’s offense so far, as he’s gone a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.

Lamar Jackson, fresh off of winning the Heisman, has gone an ugly 9-for-25 for just 146 passing yards. The LSU defense has also limited him to under a yard per carry, as he has 22 yards on 25 rushing attempts.

After the season he had, Jackson certainly deserved to win the Heisman this year. But this uncharacteristic performance is almost certainly indication that the wow factor surrounding him is over, and that his chances of repeating next year are basically slim to none. Perhaps Derrius Guice will end up winning the Heisman if he can put in games like this next year.
