The New England Patriots took care of business on Sunday, defeating the Miami Dolphins on the road, 35-14.
For the New England Patriots, the task was simple. Knock off the Miami Dolphins on the road in Week 17 and secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Tom Brady and company did just that, throttling the Dolphins on the road by the score of 35-14. It was the team’s 14th win of the season.
Brady did much to cement his spot as a possible MVP candidate, throwing for three touchdowns in the win. He connected early and often with Julian Edelman, who caught 8 balls for 151 yards and a touchdown. Newly acquired Michael Floyd score his first touchdown as a member of the Patriots, and Marcell Bennett caught a first quarter touchdown pass as well.
Miami fell behind early, as the Patriots scored the first 20 points of the ball game. By the time the two teams went into the locker room for the half, the lead was insurmountable, even with a Jarvis Landry touchdown to close out the second quarter. Turnovers would haunt Miami in the second half, as the Pats locked down the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs.
Both teams will head to the postseason, as the Dolphins will be a wildcard team next weekend. Miami has played very well under first-year head coach Adam Gase, who may be up for NFL Coach of the Year. The team hopes to get Ryan Tannehill back for their playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers next weekend, which will be the organization’s first since 2008.

Three Stars
1. Tom Brady
Just another day at the office for Brady, who threw for three touchdowns against zero interceptions. He was a surgeon in the first half, as the Pats controlled the ball throughout. Despite missing the first four games due to suspension, Brady finished the year with 28 touchdowns passes, while throwing for over 3,500 yards in only 12 starts.
2. Julian Edelman
Edelman led the way in the pass game on Sunday, and with his eight catches, finished the year with 98 grabs on the season. The veteran wide receiver went over 150 yards in the contest, running his season total to 1,106 for the year. Edelman also found the end zone for only the third time this season, but he appears to be in postseason form as the team enters their week off.
3. Jarvis Landry
It was a spectacular game for Landry, who led the Dolphins with 76 yards receiving. It was a 1,000 yard season for Landry, who had now gone over the century mark for the second straight season. He is blossoming into one of the better young receivers in the game, and will get his first taste of the postseason next weekend in Pittsburgh.

Both the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins will head to postseason play in January, though at the opposite sides of the spectrum. The Pats are the No. 1 seed in the AFC, while the Dolphins will make the final 12 as a wildcard.
