Auburn quarterback Sean White reportedly played for most of the first half of the 2017 Sugar Bowl with a broken arm

No one was thinking that Auburn Tigers would be relying all too heavily on their offense in the 2017 Sugar Bowl. Though players like quarterback Sean White had shown flashes throughout the season, their offense isn’t what makes a quality team. Even still, the hope was that White and company could keep up with the Oklahoma Sooners. And apparently the quarterback was willing to go to great lengths to try and lead the offense.

On the first drive of the game, White took off on a scramble. Rather than sliding, the Auburn signal caller embraced the contact to get a few extra yards. In doing so, though, he opened himself up to a big hit on his right arm. He was clearly in pain after the hit, but he stayed in the game for a while after that.

In fact, White played almost all of the first half. It wasn’t until the final drive of the second quarter that backup John Franklin III took the field and took over the quarterback duties. The injury became too much for White to handle and be effective. That makes since, though, as White’s father told Brandon Marcello of 247Sports that his son played through a broken arm that he suffered on that big hit on the first drive:

On the ESPN broadcast, they reported that White indeed had an arm injury. However, they would not go as far as to say it was broken. However, you have to consider the quarterback’s father as a reliable source here.

That’s incredibly gutsy to try and muscle through a broken limb on the part of White. However, it obviously hindered his performance as they only gained a field goal on his watch after an opening-drive touchdown. Now the hope would be that Franklin—of Last Chance U fame—can adequately fill in down the stretch.
