The Toronto Raptors should go get Paul Millsap

The Toronto Raptors have lost five of their last seven games and a loss on Tuesday to the Boston Celtics would drop them into a tie with the Celtics for the two seed behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. Is their recent downturn more a result of a difficult travel schedule or just the expected regression from unsustainable offensive efficiency? Or is it something else?

As head coach Dwane Casey continues to juggle his line-ups looking for the answer at power forward, should general manager Masai Ujiri help him out and make a blockbuster deal? The Atlanta Hawks, fresh off of a deal to send Kyle Korver to Cleveland, may look to continue to sell off assets (despite currently being the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference). Paul Millsap to the Raptors is a logical trade that many analysts and fans are anticipating. Reports leaked out last night that the Hawks were pulling Millsap off the trading block but we’ll believe that when the deadline passes and he’s still in Atlanta.

What price would Toronto have to pay to acquire him? Would it be worth it in the long run to pull the trigger? Are the immediate benefits worth sacrificing future financial flexibility?

To help answer these questions, Blake Murphy (@blakemurphyODC) joins Fastbreak Breakfast to talk all things Raptors. Blake is the managing editor of Raptors Republic and weighs in on the current state of the team and what they should do about their power forward position. How much would be too much to give up in a Millsap deal? Even if they can’t overcome the Cavaliers, should they still go for it?
