Trust The Process: Joel Embiid’s top five plays this season
By Connor Learn
1. This play says everything you need to know about Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid gets the ball at the top of the key and has enough space and time to do whatever he would like to do. Al Horford, one of the league’s better perimeter defensive centers, respects Embiid’s jumper and bites on the shot fake. He now has the other four Celtics at home on defense to get by.
Embiid takes one dribble to size up the Celtics. Avery Bradley doesn’t immediately cut off the 7-footer from penetrating the lane so Embiid makes his move. He gathers then takes one step around the free throw line and he is past the second level of the defense. Embiid isn’t even slowed by Jae Crowder at the rim and goes up and flushes down a thunderous dunk with ease.

Sometimes guarding Joel Embiid is unfair. You have to play him out to the 3-point line because he makes that shot regularly. Your center probably isn’t mobile enough to do that, and he can blow by that defender on his way to the rim. Put someone smaller on him, and he will post you. Joel Embiid is playing at an All-Star level already, but there will be more to come. Trust The Process.
