Jordy Nelson Injury Update: Packers WR expected to play vs Falcons

The Green Bay Packers expect to have Jordy Nelson active for the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons.

After a strong season in which Jordy Nelson came back from an ACL injury in 2015 to catch 97 passes and 14 touchdowns, the Packers star wide receiver has hardly given the Packers anything in the postseason. Nelson added one catch for 13 yards in the Packers Wild Card game against the New York Giants before a strong hit to the ribs by cornerback Leon Hall sent Nelson to the locker room.

Nelson did not return for that game, and after the Packers beat the Giants, Nelson was ruled out for last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Now that the Packers are just one game away from playing in Super Bowl LI, it looks like Nelson is going to fight through the rib injury, and will be on the field Sunday for the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Nelson was questionable all week, and head coach Mike McCarthy mentioned that if this been a regular season game, Nelson would not be suiting up. However, with the stakes, he is going to brave the injury and give it a go.

This is huge for the Packers as they have a slew of injuries at their skill positions. Both Davante Adams and Geronimo Allison, the two Packers expected to fill the void for Nelson have been on the injury report with Nelson all week, and both were deemed game-time decisions as well.

The team promoted wide receiver Max McCaffrey from the practice squad just last night in case any minor setbacks were to keep one of these names out. However, it looks like Nelson is going to take the lead, and set the tone for the younger wide receivers that this is not a game that you miss for any normal injury. Whether at 100 percent or not, the addition of Nelson has to be looked at as a huge boost.
