Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason has to undergo surgery after he suffered a fractured skull from a collision with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.

Chelsea vs. Hull City made big headlines, but for all the wrong reasons. In what was otherwise a routine win for the Premier League leaders, Ryan Mason had to get stretchered off after colliding with Gary Cahill. He stayed down on the pitch for a long time, and couldn’t get up on his own terms. Cahill was shaken up too, as he clearly didn’t intend to hurt him.

The long delay meant that there was nine minutes of stoppage time after the first half. And even though the win gave Chelsea a boost in the title chase, you had to think that the result was a secondary concern for them.

Unfortunately for Hull, Ryan Mason’s injury is as serious as it looks. According to multiple sources, Mason suffered a fractured skull, and will have to undergo surgery. He’s in stable condition, but that’s about the only good thing to come out of this.

Mason was a product of Tottenham’s youth academy. Although he was with Spurs for eight years, he spent most of his time out on loan. They finally sold him to Hull City in order to start a new chapter in his career. But suffering an injury this serious at the age of 25 has to be heartbreaking for him.
