Part two of the three-part Lucifer event is as thrilling as that kiss on the beach last week. Here’s what happened on tonight’s Lucifer!

Lucifer and Chloe come out of the elevator and make it to the couch. She rips his shirt open and we see her caress the place where his wings left a scar. He asks if she’s sure about this and she tells him to shut up, but when she leans down to kiss him, his horns pop out and he sheepishly says she found his “love handles.” She smiles and grabs on, and then she wakes up.

Maze is sitting at her bedside eating popcorn. She heard Chloe scream but then realized what was going on, and she had to stay to watch. She tells Chloe she needs to get laid, and Chloe tells Maze that she doesn’t know she isn’t. Maze just laughs at her. She tells Chloe to be impulsive just once instead of being the way she always is.

“Maybe this time will be different,” Chloe whispers.

At Linda’s office Lucifer says this time will be different. He wants to do something different and he’s trying to take this relationship slowly to make sure it works out. That’s why they went their separate ways after the kiss. Linda accuses him of stalling, which shocks Lucifer. She goes on to say he’s stalling because their relationship is so complicated. He doesn’t understand why Chloe kissed him even though he listed out all of his negative qualities. He thinks that perhaps she’s not immune to him anymore.

Lucifer meets up with Chloe and she asks how his night was. He says he needs to ask her a question about their relationship, so he asks what she truly desires, and she laughs when it doesn’t work. They move on to their newest crime scene at Malibu State where a student has died of poisoning.

Ella takes them through the symptoms and says that he probably died within a day. Chloe makes a joke and Lucifer stares at her like she’s grown a second head. They interview Ricky’s friend who was shocked by his death. Johnny Kane, the actor, had been there the day before doing research for a part. As they’re talking, Johnny walks in with a knife and says that someone threatened him.

At the station, Lucifer and Chloe watch a video of a masked man who threatened Johnny with the option to carve his own face off or someone will die. Johnny says he got the video the day before and he went to the school to see if the kid was real. He went home and decided that he couldn’t cut up his own face, and so poor Ricky died. Lucifer thinks the masked man is playing god, and Lucifer starts to wonder if someone was pulling the strings. He’s actually thinking about Chloe and not the suspect.

Outside the interrogation room he tries calling his mother, but she’s already there. He wants to know if she did something to Chloe, but she is thrilled that they kissed. She tells him to follow his heart. Dan interrupts awkwardly and says that they traced the email where the video came from.

They go to the library and Lucifer says that libraries are dreary places. They smell like feet. When Chloe sees a couple making out, she says they can be romantic and asks if he ever made out in a library, but he wants to know what’s gotten into her. She can’t understand why he is avoiding sex, and she has been trying to get him to say something about the kiss but he’s not biting. The sound of a woman screaming distracts them and they go into the office to find the guy they’re looking for. He’s watching porn.

Lucifer sprays the kid down with hand sanitizer and asks him to explain the video. He says he didn’t send anything. They look at his email account and he says he was teaching when the email was sent from his account, but then they see another email sent recently. It’s to a thoracic surgeon, Dr. Gwendolyn Scott, and she has the choice between destroying her hand and allowing another student, Ashley, to die of poisoning.

They arrive at a sorority house. Dr. Scott is with Dan, so she’s safe. Chloe tells Lucifer to let her handle things inside. She asks how she looks, and he says “beautiful.” She tries to goad him but he hands her a blue plastic cup instead. Inside, the house is full of partying kids. Women surround Lucifer.

Dan interviews Dr. Scott. She asks him what he’d do if it was her hand or an innocent girl. She has spent her life helping people, and this is something she can’t control. He assures her their best people are working the case.

Meanwhile, the sorority girls have Lucifer chugging a beer bong. Chloe sees him go upstairs and follows. It turns out that Lucifer is upstairs smoking pot and talking to the girls about Chloe. When she comes in, they know she’s the one he was talking about and Chloe is taken aback when they comment on how pretty she is. And Lucifer was working—Ashley is in the bathroom. They go inside and see that her nose has started to bleed.

Linda welcomes Charlotte to her office. Charlotte says she has upsetting information she needs to get to Lucifer and she doesn’t know how to approach it. She says it could send him over the edge and make him upset at his father. She also knows that Lucifer might not believe her. Linda says she won’t impart the information to Lucifer. Charlotte lets it slip that Chloe might be involved, and Linda says she won’t be involved.

Dan tells Dr. Scott that the antidote isn’t working on Ashley. He makes a call while she gets a glass of water. He hears a garbage disposal going and he makes it to the kitchen in time to see her grind her hand up. Chloe and Lucifer show up at Dr. Scott’s house and they say they probably won’t get a response from the killer but they sent the photo to the killer anyway. Lucifer says that she likely made a mistake trying to appease the killer. Chloe tells him he’s letting his emotions getting in the way. A delivery man arrives and says that he has a package for Dr. Scott. It’s the antidote.

At the station, Ella tells Dan that her people connected the poison to what looks to be the first victim, only he died across the country. She says that this poison was designed so that it can be modified for each victim, making it impossible to create antidotes in time. Dan recognizes the dead guy as the rich guy, Andy, that they interviewed about the dead stewardess. Maybe he stole the package that went missing.

Ashley doesn’t recognize the other dead student, but she says she got a flu shot. Ricky also got a flu show. Dr. Jason Carlisle is the guy who gave the kids the flu shot.

Dan says the Carlisle was famous because he had been in an accident, but instead of saving the driver he saved his dissertation. Now he’s recreating his own moral dilemma—custom victims designed to match his predicament of choosing to be a doctor or a student. Lucifer suggests that they use his ego against him.

Chloe sends him an email and insults him to get the doctor to respond. He responds instantly with a link to a video chat. She calls him by name and he takes the mask off. They call him out for his crimes but he says it only proved his hypothesis. He shows them that he has another experiment lined up, and behind him are two college students tied up. One has the chance to save the other if he cuts off his leg.

Charlotte meets up with maze at a bar. Charlotte says she needs to tell her about Chloe. Maze tells her to give Lucifer the bad news herself. Before she can leave, Charlotte says that Chloe was a miracle. Amenadiel made Chloe’s mother able to give birth. That’s why Chloe is immune to Lucifer. And there’s more.

Ella says that she found proof that the professor killed Andy, and in the footage they see that he’s working at rival school, Pasadena. When Lucifer and Chloe show up, Carlisle has the boys tied up but he also has a challenge for Chloe. She can have the antidote for Benji, but she has to navigate poison gas to get it.

Chloe moves to break the door down but Lucifer says she’ll die if she goes in. He tells her to go after the professor and he’ll get in without dying. While she chases him, Lucifer cuts his wrist. He waits for her to get far enough away, and this allows him to get his strength back and goes inside.

Chloe catches up with Carlisle and he pulls out a knife. He says he’s not a monster, he’s human. Choice, he says, is an illusion. He didn’t have a choice then, and he doesn’t now. He slits his own throat.

She races back over and finds the boys safe. Lucifer comes out and says he’s all right. She jumps into his arms, and he realizes this is all real. The emotion hits him like a sack of bricks.

Lucifer shows up later that night to find Maze at a bar, and Charlotte is there with her. He’s excited to tell them that he and Chloe are real, and he says he feels invincible. Maze tries to get him out of the bar, changing her mind at the last moment. Before they can leave, Lucifer spots a picture of Amenadiel and Chloe’s mother at that same bar, years ago. Charlotte tells him that his father put Chloe into his life, and though Lucifer doesn’t want to believe it, he starts to realize that it’s true.
