With National Signing Day approaching, let’s take a look at the five must-have targets for Oklahoma football recruiting.

After starting the 2016 season 1-2 with losses to North Carolina and Ohio State, the Oklahoma Sooners looked destined for a disappointing follow-up season to their 2015 College Football Playoff campaign. However, that was not the case.

The Sooners finished strong, winning their final nine regular season games as well as the Sugar Bowl against No. 14 Auburn. Finishing the season with 10 straight wins bodes well for momentum heading into the 2017 season, even with the losses of Dede Westbrook, Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon.

There won’t be too many defensive departures, other than a defensive back and a couple of tackles, but the Sooners will be looking to add depth before National Signing Day in the trenches.

Here are the Sooners’ top-five must-have targets before signing day.

All recruiting rankings reflect the 247Sports Composite.

5. Marvin Wilson, 5-star DT (Bellaire, Texas)

Is this kid a long-shot to join the Sooners’ 2017 class? Absolutely. However, Marvin Wilson was just visited by the Oklahoma coaching staff on Jan. 23 so the Sooners must feel like they still have a shot to land him.

There’s no doubt he’s one of the hottest commodities still left on the market and he has top teams from around the country still trying to court him. The five-star from Bellaire, Texas, is reportedly considering Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, South Florida and Oklahoma.

The LSU Tigers seem to be the leaders for him, but both Oklahoma and Ohio State are making last-second pushes to land the defensive tackle.

This is a kid who could come in and start right away for the Sooners and they desperately need help on the defensive line. He’s ranked the No. 6 overall recruit and top defensive tackle in the country.
