The Browns have been in need for a stable quarterback for quite some time now, and Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo could be their next victim.

Every offseason, the Cleveland Browns always ask the same question: Who is our quarterback for next season? So far this year, many names have been thrown around.

Robert Griffin III is still under contract for next season and Cody Kessler saw significant time when RGIII was injured. The Browns currently hold the first and 12th overall picks in this year’s draft. Names like Deshaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer have been talked about possibly going to Cleveland with either of those picks.

The name that makes sense in all of this mayhem is Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Patriots took Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he has been backing up Tom Brady ever since. He made a name for himself at the beginning of the season when he got a chance to start while Brady served his deflategate suspension.

Before getting hurt against the Dolphins, Garoppolo threw for 496 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. His claim to fame was winning on the road against the Cardinals in prime time.

Would losing Garoppolo have any effect on the Patriots?

That may seem like a silly question now but let’s remember, Brady is 39 years old and won’t play forever, even though it looks like he could. As Garoppolo is only 25 years old, he has plenty of time left in this league. We all saw what sitting behind Brett Favre for a few years did for Aaron Rodgers.

For the Browns, they have everything to gain, but giving up their 12th overall pick for Garoppolo seems like a bit much. The price would have to be much lower for a guy who has limited experience starting in the NFL. But with skill position players like Terrelle Pryor, Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson, they need a quarterback who will succeed.
