In an absolutely classic main event, Bayley achieved her dream as she defeated Charlotte to become the new WWE RAW Women’s Champion

To begin the third hour of the Feb. 13 episode of WWE RAW, Kevin Owens turned on Chris Jericho in a fantastic segment. Even with Bayley vs. Charlotte for the RAW Women’s Championship being booked for the main event, it appeared as if no moment was going to top the breakup of Jeri-KO. While it may not have topped it, though, it sure as hell came close to doing so.

Bayley and Charlotte put on a clinic and an instant classic in the ring. Legitimately, it might’ve been the best women’s match not on a pay-per-view or on NXT within the confines of WWE in years. There was brutality, there was emotion, and there was a story. And just when it appeared that Charlotte was going to retain, everyone’s favorite Hugger finally got help of her own.

When Bayley locked in the Figure Four to try and tap out the champ to her father’s own move, Dana Brooke broke it up, thus allowing Charlotte to get the Figure Eight in on Bayley. That’s when Sasha Banks came down to even the playing field, though, breaking the hold with a hit to Charlotte using her crutch. A stunned Charlotte then came face-to-face with the challenger again and then ate a monster Belly-to-Bayley. That was good for the 1-2-3, making Bayley the new Women’s Champion:

Whenever she was called up from NXT, it was clear that WWE had big plans for Bayley and her extreme babyface gimmick. As it’s now possible that she has the title going into WrestleMania 33, that’s even more obvious.

The real question now is who she will face at Mania. While having her go up against Charlotte is a possibility—as is a multi-woman match—you can’t discredit the possibility that Sasha might be involved. A turn could be coming soon, though that’s far from a formality. For now, let’s appreciate a well-deserved first title for Bayley and hope it’s successful and the first of many.
