1. Jimmy Garoppolo

Garoppolo enters the offseason as the big domino that everyone is waiting to see fall before the quarterback frenzy begins. The best part about Garoppolo for the Texans is that they can trade to acquire him, and would not waste much cap space.

Brock Osweiler is set to make $19 million is 2017. Cutting him would only increase the Texans cap, so he is on the roster. To invest much more than that monetarily into the cap would be borderline crazy. This is why Tony Romo, Tyrod Taylor, and Jay Cutler do not make much sense here.

However, the cap hit for Garoppolo is slightly over $1 million. What is one million when you are already paying so much for such an inadequate quarterback? The Texans could start him next season, find out if worth investing in and then sign him to a big contract in the 2018 offseason. In 2018, it is much easier for the Texans to move on from Osweiler.

It would also save them cap space this offseason, to where they could re-sign Bouye, and add some of these important names to give Garoppolo a complete roster to work with.

Speculation is that the price is going to be high for the Patriots backup, but in most cases, two second round picks could bring him home. The Texans could absolutely pull that off, especially if they can hit some needs in free agency, and would turn into a lower risk, higher reward move than some are making it out to be. It seems like a good deal for both sides, and the Texans should certainly entertain this idea in the coming weeks.
