Sidney Crosby is the latest player to reach the 1,000 point plateau, reaching it on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets.

Sidney Crosby has been destined for greatness since he got drafted with the first overall pick of the 2005 NHL Draft. Despite immense pressure on him to save the Pittsburgh Penguins, he has done precisely that. With two Stanley Cups, two Art Ross trophies, two Hart Trophies, and a Conn Smythe, there’s no much Crosby hasn’t done.

Thanks to an assist on a goal by Chris Kunitz in the first period against the Winnipeg Jets, he can add 1,000 career points to his already impressive resume.

Crosby has been nothing short of a blessing for the NHL. He has served as its face. Love him or hate him, Sid The Kid is a generational talent. Every good story needs a villain and a hero. Crosby is perfectly fine with playing either role. To his fans, he’s a hero. However, to opposing fans, he’s the guy who’s fun to boo.

Sid The Kid has gotten to the 1,000 point milestone in just 757 games. He is the quickest to do so since Jaromir Jagr. Crosby is the 86th player to do so and the third to join the club this season. Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks each did it earlier in 2017.

Currently, Crosby ranks third among active players in goals per game, first in assists per game, and first in points per game. He ranks fifth all-time in assists per game and points per game. With his 1,000th point, Crosby adds what might be the final required touch to his Hall of Fame resume. Injuries nearly derailed his career, but he’s still put together one of the best careers the NHL has seen in recent years. Crosby’s overcome a lot to get to this point. Much like Penguins owner Mario Lemieux, he’s let nothing get in the way between him and success.
