4. Quarterback

Quarterback is by far the most interesting debate the Texans will have to have this offseason. On one hand, Brock Osweiler is clearly not the answer. He was shaky under pressure and showed little hope that 2017 will be better. On the other side, he is on the books for $19 million next season and would cost more to be cut than to stick on the roster.

The Texans will have to find his replacement but will have to do it on a somewhat cheap contract. In terms of veteran acquisitions, Geno Smith, Matt McGloin and Mike Glennon all come to mind. All three are free agents, and none will have a chance to start on their former team. While they all come with their questions, that just helps the fact that they could attain them on a contract that would not hoard their entire salary cap.

In the draft, the problem is that this year is not a great class for quarterback. Picking at 25th overall, any competent names will be off the board. They can reach for one, or they can take one in the mid rounds. But, both options leave the idea that it is a crapshoot whether they will get any sort of value out of the pick. It may sound ugly, but the three free agents have a chance to compete and beat out Osweiler and may be the way to go for the Texans.
