Tony Romo may find a new home in Washington D.C. playing for the Washington Redskins, should things break a certain way.

According to Bleacher Report, the Washington Redskins could make a move towards Tony Romo, the veteran quarterback from the Dallas Cowboys.

Currently, the Redskins are in an interesting position because of their main man: Kirk Cousins. Cousins is the starting quarterback for the Redskins. However, talks of a long-term deal have stalled and it does not look like they will resume any time soon.

Cousins believes he is worth the money of a long-term deal, but the Redskins aren’t quite ready to give up that kind of money for him.

Washington could put the franchise tag on Cousins for a second consecutive season, but that would guarantee Cousins a little more than $23.9 million for next season. The problem with putting the franchise tag on Cousins for another season is the hit their salary cap will take. Therefore, the Redskins would like to negotiate a cap-friendly deal to keep Cousins around for the next handful of years.

The Redskins and Cousins tried to negotiate a long-term contract last season, but ultimately slapped the franchise tag on him and called it a day. The solution is not that easy this year.

Even if Cousins is not an elite quarterback, he is worth paying the elite price, because a team without a quarterback will never quite have enough, something the Houston Texans have illustrated over the past few seasons.

If the Redskins decided to trade Cousins, they have two options. Draft a quarterback in the draft or go after a veteran. The best veteran signal-caller that will be potentially hitting the market this summer is Romo.

Romo was the starter for the Dallas Cowboys, until he was injured in the preseason and replaced by rookie sensation, Dak Prescott. The Cowboys will either trade Romo away or release him soon, creating a frenzy among contenders.
