It’s a common sentiment, but Carmelo Anthony is wondering about the direction of the New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks are consistently in the news for the wrong reasons, from the conflict between Charles Oakley and owner James Dolan to Phil Jackson repeatedly using certain platforms to call out Carmelo Anthony.

A no-trade clause and big contract did little to quell trade rumors surrounding Anthony in the weeks leading up to Thursday’s deadline. But things died down a lot as the market for Anthony was clearly limited — or the Knicks simply did not make any more effort to move him.

The only major trade talks the Knicks seemed to be involved in at the deadline was with the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a one-for-one point guard swap of Derrick Rose and Ricky Rubio. But the discussion of a first-round pick being added seemed to derail that, and the Knicks were inactive at the trade deadline.

Anthony has been the logical voice in his back-and-forth with Jackson, saying everything while also saying nothing controversial. After Thursday night’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Anthony was asked if he had a sense of any plan the Knicks’ front office has.

Via ESPN’s Ian Begley, Anthony made it clear what he thinks.

"“No, not now. No, to be honest with you,” Anthony said late Thursday night. “I think they were kind of planning on the trade deadline, whether they were trying to make moves. I think that was one plan. Now they’ve got to get back to the drawing board and come up with another plan about the future of this team.”"

It would be surprising if Anthony doesn’t waive his no-trade clause during the offseason, with or without continued baiting from Jackson. But plenty of Knicks fans and observers are wondering what exactly the plan is, or if Jackson plans to stick around to execute it, so Anthony has just added a voice from someone in the proverbial room.
