Adam Wainwright rents car for young teammate
Adam Wainwright is now the coolest guy in baseball after renting a car for a young teammate who was walking everywhere.
The St. Louis Cardinals brought Adam Wainwright in 11 years ago, and he’s been a part of their organization ever since. He has been through plenty of Spring Training’s in his career seeing different prospects come and go. However, this time he saw something he hadn’t seen before.
Pitching prospect Ryan Sherriff is in Jupiter, Florida for Spring Training with the Cardinals, but he doesn’t have car to get around. Luckily, his condo is within walking distance of the stadium.
Wainwright began to notice Sherriff walking everywhere, whether it be stadium or supermarket. Being a great guy, Wainwright offered to get him a bike but Sherriff declined. Then he offered to rent him a car, but Sherriff again declined his offer. Wainwright refused to take no for an answer. He sought and got some help from the team and rented Sheriff a car, all expenses paid.
This is one of those stories that everybody can really appreciate. Sheriff was making the most of his situation by walking, but it’s great to see a longtime veteran like Wainwright not let him spend his entire month walking in the hot Florida sun. In response to his kind gesture, Sheriff decided to get Wainwright some simple but epic gifts.
The Cardinals need to keep Sheriff around. He’s clearly going places in this world if he knows the best response to a kind gesture is Chick Fil-A and tea.
