The Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and San Francisco 49ers might be discussing an unprecedented 3-team trade.
The Dallas Cowboys have two starting QBs on their roster right now, but one of them has to get traded sooner rather than later. That player is going to be Tony Romo. The only mystery surrounding a trade for him is who will be involved in it.Right now, it could be one of two potential teams looking for an upgrade at QB. The Washington Redskins have placed a franchise tag on Kirk Cousins for the second year in a row and it sounds like he’s ready to bolt from DC after that expires. The San Francisco 49ers are looking for a QB of any kind and their head coach happens to be Cousins former offensive coordinator in Washington.

According to Ian Rapoport, all three teams could be in talks for an unprecedented three-team deal. Talks started off between San Francisco and Washington, but recently Dallas has entered the mix in search of draft picks.
As #Redskins & #49ers discuss a potential deal for QB Kirk Cousins in the near future, I’m told they may include the #Cowboys (Romo) as well

Play a potential and unprecedented three-way deal forward… #49ers inquire about Cousins. #Redskins talk about Tony Romo. #Cowboys get picks.

This could be a wild trade involving three teams in unique QB situations. Washington doesn’t appear to have any faith in Cousins long-term; otherwise, they would have given him a new contract, and San Francisco is in the perfect place to take a gamble on him. Dallas meanwhile just wants a return of any kind on Romo’s value. It’s a genius move on their part to stick their nose in this deal. Adding draft picks to add on to the young core they’ve built could set Dallas up in a great situation in the long term.

Three-team trades are a rarity in the NFL, but this feels like the perfect situation for one to happen. The most interesting piece in this aside from Romo has to be the draft pick owned by San Francisco. Are the 49ers willing to part with that to get one of the two QBs available here? It’s a team in need of a major overhaul, but this could guarantee them a quarterback that the draft can’t.
