Highlights and results from the Samoa Joe vs Sami Zayn match at WWE Fastlane 2017 on Sunday, March 5

Since Samoa Joe arrived on WWE RAW, he’s done nothing but wreck everything in sight. That started with Seth Rollins at the bidding of Triple H. When Sami Zayn stood up to him, the Samoan Submission Machine turned his sights to The Underdog from the Underground. However, Zayn also managed to return the favor one week after he was ambushed. Coupled with their rivalry from NXT, there was plenty of bad blood heading into their match at WWE Fastlane 2017.

Right out of the gate, Zayn was completely overwhelmed by the power of Joe. Triple H’s supposed henchman caught his opponent right away and started raining down strikes on him. Even when Sami Zayn looked to try and counter and hit an arm drag, Joe was too strong to go over.

That only led to more punishment being doled out by Joe, including a wicked jab to the jaw and then a painful-looking modified surfboard submission. Once again Zayn tried to counter with his quickness, but Joe had plenty of spryness to work with as well and not fall victim–at least until Zayn was able to catch him with a clothesline that eventually led to a massive Blue Thunder Bomb:

Zayn’s advantage was short-lived, however. When he went to the top-rope, that allowed Samoa Joe to find an opening and get his opponent reeling. That led to a wicked tour de force that included a nasty kick and a thunderous powerslam. Even when he tried to get his momentum again, he tried for a Helluva Kick and was sent down into the mat from the corner:

From there, it was all power from Joe and, when Zayn gave up his back, it was curtains. Joe got his neck and took him to the mat with the lethal Coquina Clutch:

Zayn never stood a chance and lost consciousness, thus giving Joe the dominant win in his pay-per-view debut.
