4. The Broncos have done this before

Peyton Manning, coming off multiple neck surgeries and a missed season that had his career in doubt, was released by the Indianapolis Colts in 2012 to make room for No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck. Manning’s own free agency tour eventually brought him to the Broncos, where he seemed to find a kindred spirit in general manager John Elway.

For his first three seasons in Denver, Manning picked up right where he left off when he was last healthy in Indianapolis. The high point from was 2013, when he set single-season records for passing yards (5,477) and passing touchdowns (55). He was clearly in a diminished state in 2015, and was even benched for Brock Osweiler. But the Broncos made their second Super Bowl appearance in three years behind a great defense, and won Super Bowl 50 to send Manning out on a high note.

An older quarterback? Check. An older quarterback with durability concerns? Check. Romo obviously doesn’t have the resume Manning did five years ago, but the Broncos have been here before and they can do it again, with success.
